Milngavie to Drymen

12 miles / 19 km

The West Highland Way began beneath the black-and-silver arch in Milngavie, followed by a gathering at the official granite monument before setting out toward Drymen. The route soon entered dense green woodland beside a rocky stream and still, reflective water beneath arching trees. A playful skeleton dressed as a Highland walker added a humorous trailside moment before the path continued along another shallow woodland burn.

The white buildings of Glengoyne Distillery provided a memorable landmark, followed by a broad river and low weir surrounded by spring foliage. The countryside then opened into green pasture with grazing cattle, yellow gorse, distant hills, flowering trees, and dark conifer woods. Across 12 miles, the stage offered a varied introduction to the walk from Milngavie to Drymen.
